Program Specialist - Retrofit Accelerator Network

The Program Specialist plays a key role in Alberta Ecotrust Foundation by supporting the operations of the retrofit accelerator (RA) and Emissions Neutral Buildings Information Exchange (ENBIX).  The role involves the coordination and implementation of the partnership delivery network for the RA.  The role will also foster relevant partnerships and support operations management of projects associated with Alberta Ecotrust’s ENBIX initaitve.

Your goal in this position is to assist with the operations of RA delivery network partnerships as well as coordinate, implement, and management of ENBIX initiative projects, creating alignment and synergies between the RA and Alberta Ecotrust’s ENBIX initiative, and helping to develop and foster relationships in the Emissions-Neutral Building network.

This position is responsible for the following:

  • Maintain and grow the Alberta Ecotrust Buildings network, including academic institutions, training organizations,  associations, private business in the building sector, public entities, private entities, NGOs, and government partners in Alberta and elsewhere when appropriate.

  • Develop collaborations and partnerships while working with external agencies, industry, academia and community to develop and align planning, programs, products, services, research, and policy development, for the Retrofit Accelerator and ENBIX Program.

  • Support the Director, Emissions-Neutral Buildings, Senior Program Manager, Retrofit Accelerator and Senior Program Manager, in providing a secretariat function for all associated committees relating to the RA and/or ENBIX. 

  • Support administration and reporting related to external grants, and other Alberta Ecotrust reporting requirements.

  • Assist with approaches to support equity, diversity and inclusion for the RA and ENBIX, including building partnerships with Indigenous groups and communities to support deep energy retrofits.

  • Provide support for network alignment, including managing the Client Relationship Management software relating to the activities of the RA and ENBIX.

  • Manage the development of the necessary contracts and consultant agreements associated with the RA partnership network and ENBIX external projects.

  • Manage the procurement of proponents associated with the delivery of RA and ENBIX initiatives.

  • In collaboration with finance and the monitoring and reporting teams, implement, monitor, and report on project agreements associated with the network and ENBIX partners, including ensuring timely delivery of financial reporting and fulfillment reports and the achievement of program deliverables and milestones. 

  • Support communications and knowledge transfer around Alberta Ecotrust’s retrofit accelerator initiatives, supporting our partners and amplifying the work they are doing as necessary. 

  • Support the development and implementation of project communications plans relating to the activities of the RA network, in coordination with the Communications Team.

  • Assist the ENBIX team in the management of a training and educational consortium with different providers across Alberta to help support, expand, and amplify their offerings related to deep energy retrofits and new construction.

  • Represent Alberta Ecotrust publicly in a manner consistent with Alberta Ecotrust’s professional standards.

  • Maintain accurate and complete files to ensure reporting is accurate and audit ready. 

  • Lead management and procurement of external consulting contracts.

  • Participate actively as an Alberta Ecotrust team member at staff meetings, retreats and through ad hoc staff working groups.

  • Collaborate with other staff members to seek out areas of synergy among different program areas.

  • Contribute ideas and expertise to strategic discussions.

Skills and Expertise

You will directly report to the Director, Emissions-Neutral Buildings and you will frequently collaborate with the Buildings Team, Senior Program Managers (Retrofit Acclerator and ENBIX) and Communications Team as well as the rest of the Alberta Ecotrust team. Alberta Ecotrust’s head office is in Calgary, however, the successful candidate can be located in either Calgary or Edmonton, or potentially a remote placement.


A successful candidate will possess the following skills and expertise:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication.

  • Experience/good aptitude for various software and other technologies. 

  • Attention to detail.

  • Excellent administrative skills, including organizing, meeting logistics, and committee communications.

  • Familiarity with social innovation approaches and how to apply them for the purposes of improving outcomes.

  • Education in management, environmental studies, energy management, engineering, business, finance, economics, public policy or a similar discipline.  

  • Experience in partnership brokering and relationship management.  Past experience with fundraising and/or sales would be an asset.

  • Experience in project management including time managing complex programs or projects with numerous participants, including planning, implementation, and evaluation.

  • Knowledge of energy auditing, energy management, monitoring & verification of energy cost savings and greenhouse gas emissions, retrofit planning, renovation and/or building design and the players that complete the work would be an asset.

  • Direct experience or general exposure to network development, event planning, capacity building, material or curriculum development, webinar hosting, technical material development.

Workplace Culture & Position Location

Alberta Ecotrust provides a flexible schedule and an inclusive, positive, and collaborative team culture. A hybrid model is employed at Alberta Ecotrust with flexible office hours combined with remote working.  Travel between Calgary and Edmonton and occasionally throughout the province will be required as part of this position.


In Calgary, we have a casual workplace in a heritage building with lots of meeting space, a full kitchen, great access to transit, local restaurants and the downtown core. In Edmonton, we have a co-working space for individual workspaces, meetings, and collaborative spaces when needed. Remuneration
This is a full time temporary position (35 hours per week) with a competitive salary range of $75,000-$90,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for the earned day off work schedule (7.5 hour day/37.5 hour work week to earn every third Friday off with pay). Plus paid health benefits (after 3 months), three weeks vacation and a winter break.
